Tijjania-Ibrahimia Sufi order has three major recitations in three major litanies.
The recitations are:
- Istighfari (seeking forgiveness from allah).
- Salatin Nabiy(SAW), and
- Hailalat
The three litanies are:
- Lazeem,
- Wazifah, and
- Hailalatil Jumát
The Rules and Regulations governing this sufi order are shown below(Rimaah, I):
- The shaykh who transmits the adhkaar should be authorized to do so by proper initiation (talqeen) from the founder or by someone who has been properly authorized to do so.
- Those who seek initiation must free themselves from the wird of any other shaykh which may have been required of them and abandon such a wird and never return to it(If one has been initiated to another sufi order not Tijania-Ibrahimia).
- One must not visit any saints living or dead (implying that one cannot visit any saint living or dead except the saint is an initiate of Tijania-Ibrahimia sufi order).
- One must seek to observe the five daily prayers in a group(Congregation) and to fulfill the requirements of the shari`a(Islamic law).
- One must ceaselessly love the shaykh(Sheikh Ahmad Tijani RA) until his death, and one must love the successor (khaleefa, particularly sahibul fayda, sheikh Ibrahim Inyass RA) to the shaykh and all that which was close to the shaykh, such as his chosen followers and his directives, in the same way that one loved the shaykh.
- One must not think that he is secure from the ruses of God(Fear the ruses of Allah) .
- One must not express any insult, hatred, or animosity toward the shaykh(Sheikh Ahmad Tijani RA).
- One should persevere with the wird until death.
- One must maintain a firm belief [in the tariqa].
- One must remain free from all blameworthy acts.
- A disciple should be properly authorized to recite the dhikr through a genuine initiation (talqeen) by someone who has received a genuine authorization from the founder or from another authorized person.
- One must gather in a group(congregation) for [the recitation of] the wazeefa and for the recitation (dhikr) of the hailala on Friday afternoon.
- One must not recite the jawharat al-kamaal without performing the ritual ablution with water.
- One must refrain from any activities which might result in the rupture of good relations between himself and his fellow-men, and especially between himself and his brothers in the tareeqa.
- One must not be negligent of the wird, such as delaying it from its proper time, except for good cause.
- One must not presume to bestow the wird without a genuine authorization to do so.
- One must respect everyone who has been affiliated with the shaykh(Sheikh Ahmad Tijani RA), especially the eminent members of the tareeqa.
- [For the recitation of the dhikr] one must be concerned for the cleanliness of one's clothing and one's person;
- One must be concerned for the cleanliness of the place where one is sitting;
- One must sit and face the qibla unless one is travelling, one is very close to the ka`ba, or one is in a group;
- And one must refrain from speaking [words other than the dhikr] unless absolutely necessary.
- If one is able, one should envision the image of the founder(Sheikh Ahmad Tijani RA) before him from the beginning of the dhikr until its end, and one should seek assistance from him. And what is preferable to that, and more beneficial, more exalted and more accomplished, is to envision the Prophet(SAW).
- One should also call to mind the meanings of the formulations of the dhikr if one is able to understand them.
The regulations in red are necessary condition that must be stated before initiation, one must agree to abide by them before one will be initiated into the sufi order. Some scholars say violating them result to talqeen becoming void.
While those in yellow are necessary for the spiritual growth and perfection of an initiated. The rest stand between these two.
Biography of Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass (RA) 1320 – 1395 (1902 – 1975)
Prediction about the coming of Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA)
Islam is the last heavenly revealed religion for the salvation of man Genie. It complements what other earlier heavenly religion started. Before Almighty God there are three types of religion, which are The triple F. The former, The forged and the foremost. The former are the earlier heavenly revealed religions given for the time being and doesn't have the universal attributes, now remain only Yahud(Judaism) and Nasran(Christianity) on this category and are referred to as “the people of scripture (Ahlil Kitab)”. The
forged are religions invented by man and not at any time revealed by God. The foremost is Islam which has the universal attribute.
In Islam there are two major division for adherents to observe,
Aqeedat(Belief) and Ibadat(Worship). In aqeedat only one leads to Paradise and there are 72 others that diviate and leads to Hell.
While in Ibadat deviation is a mercy as the prophetic hadith
established (Ikhtilafi ummtiy rahma). These deviations makes worships easier particularly if consideration is made to differences in geographical locations, anthropology, sociology and many other factors that may pose a challenge to universality of Islam.
There are are three major variations namely Madhhab (School of
jurisprudence) where Maliki, shafi'i, Hanifi and Hambali school are the most established. The second is in regard to recitation of the holy Qurán where there are ten or seven schools of recitation and the most established are Warsh, Hafs and Qanoun. The third is on drawing closer to Allah (Tasawwuf) where we have 313 Sufi Orders granted license by the prophet(SAW) himself.
The most reckoned of all the Sufi Orders and in fact the one that best fit this era as described by a professor of Islamic Studies where he said "Tijjania is the sufi order of the modern world"; is Tijjania Sufi order. The sufi order was licensed to its wasilat, Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani (RA) who lived in areas within the present day Algeria and Morocco. The sufi order was given to the patron sheikh to initiate any Muslim who has intention of practicing it male, female, young or old, free or slave. Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani(RA) rise to a very high position in Wilayat
(Saintship) until he became Khatimil Wilayat (The seal of saintship) and Qutbul Makhtum(The concealed Pole). Before he returned to the glory of his lord he (RA) said سياتي فيضة هده الطرفة بيد صاحبه و الناس في غايت الضق "The Flood of this sufi order will manifest in the hand of its custodian when people are in great difficulties" . This prediction was completed by the patron sheikh of Tijjania(RA) where he said "...And people will be initiated into our sufi order en masse(in troupe) " .
This predict the coming of a saint within Tijania Sufi order that shall be known as sahibul Faydhati Ahmadiyya or in short sahibul Faydha. In his time spiritual flooding will occur in the universe. Gates of fortunes, success and achievements will be opened by his grace to Sufis of his time. Progress of Tijania Sufi order will reach its peak through his hands. Spiritual Revolutions and emancipation will reach its zenith in the city of Sesame and the 500 invisible hierarchy of saint governing the inner circle of Islamic spirit will be re-shuffle for the best.
This spiritual break through is very similar to the emergence of a new prophet(AS) to his people at the time when prophets(ASA) were raised. This period to Islamic mysticism is like the renaissance age of great scientific discoveries, or it can be likened to achieving of independence or self rule by a nation. The Sufis grandmasters await this epoch, because in it one of the greatest teacher of spirituality and Islamic mysticism will be born. It is like the Israelites history of Moses(AS) seeing the burning bush and as he approached “The burning bush” God Almighty spoke with him and appointed him as an apostle with a mission to Pharaoh. Manifestation of custodian of the flood is like a “burning bush”, men of God comes to him and get divine awareness and permanent connection with God Almighty, many were assigned spiritual mission to Pharoah’s of their time by God. The beginning of Exodus is the “burning bush”, Israelite were delivered from the bondage of slavery in Egypt in the hand of Coptic ruling class and were promised new land. The custodian of flood is the beginning of Exodus of men of God from the bondage of Satanic forces in the mundane and a promised land of Maárifatillah (Gnosis and awareness of God’s presence). A complete transforming of impure men and generations to great men of God and generation totally committed to God alone. The custodian of the flood, may my soul be sacrificed for his sake, is the last representative of Rasulullah (SAW) this world will ever witness, even though memory of Rasulullah(SAW) is forever in the minds of believers, but having his representative physically presence increase the yearnings and love of Rasulullah (SAW) in minds of beliver. Great men of Sufism started searching and looking for who will be this saint foretold by Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani(RA).
This saint is our master, Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass (RA) who manifested in Senegal.

Out of three one was selected
The word of Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani(RA) on the coming of the custodian of the flood, who shall be one of his disciple. The prediction formed great expectations on the Sufi world and many Sufis prayed they will be, they even striven to achieve such blessings. Many others commenced the searchfor this great saint who will be the key for spiritual flood. Out of the disciples of Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani(RA) that striven to be graced with being custodian of the flood, three became universally paramount, out of them one was chosen by Allah to be the custodian and that is Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA). Next paragraphs we take a look the remaining two.
One of the two major Sufis that wish to be custodian of flood is Sheikh AbdAllah Shinjity(RA) who is an ahlil bayt, a sufi, a Tijanis and a contender in regard to the custodian of the flood. He performed suluk(Striving to become the custodian of the flood) with strict adherence to disciplines and ethics of Sufism and by recitation of different litanies in the Tijjania Sufi Order; until Allah opened this Sufi’s eyes to see the light of Custodian of the flood shinning and moving in the air like shooting star. Then he spiritually realized he can't be the custodian of the flood. He was inspired to follow the light, look for the custodian and hand over the disciplines, ethics and litanies he has been engaged on which was for the custodian. According to one biographer of the Flood said:
“When sheikh AbdAllah Shareef Shinjity(RA) made proclamation of being the Custodian of the Flood, he heard a mysterious voice saying ‘لست لها و لكن صاحبها الان في سنغال ’ (Lo! You are not for it but its custodian right one is in Senegal). When he heard this he rode his horse to Senegal to find out in the houses of Tijjania(over there, where will the great saint be). He suffered searching, but couldn’t find the right house; he was about to return back(give up), when he was inspired to enter mosque and pray and beseech Allah to aid him. He entered mosque and humble himself before Allah and placed his quest. Allah answered his prayer after three days, he heard a mysterious voice ‘ارفع بصرك ’(Raise your gaze). He raised his head toward the heaven and saw light in the sky and heard a voice saying, ‘واتبع هدا النور الشريف الشيخ عبدالله السنجيطي ’(O! Shareef Sheikh AbdAllah Shinjitiy follow this light) he followed the light until it lead him to the house of Sheikh AbdAllah(RA) and the day broke, so he wait to continue following the light the next night, from that house. In the morning when Sheikh AbdAllah(RA) came out, they exchanged greetings. He narrated his event, and insisted to search the house whether he will see the Custodian of the Flood. Sheikh AbdAllah(RA) asked him to wait until they pray.
After they prayed subh prayer and ate breakfast, sheikh AbdAllah(RA) called all his children for him to see.
And when sheikh Ibrahim(RA) came, he saw that light in him and asked sheikh AbdAllah(RA) is this among your children? He replied, Yes.
Then what is his name?
Ibrahim, replied sheikh AbdAllah(RA).”
He followed the light from Mauritania where he lived, until he reached Senegal right to the house of Sheikh Abdullahi, the father of sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA). In the house, he asked Sheikh Abdullahi(RA) permission to inspect all the members of the house. Each member of the house came out one after the other, until Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA) who was a young man then came out, and immediately the light descended on him. Then Sheikh Shinjity(RA) identifies who the custodian will be, but
he didn't disclose this to any. Rather he left for Mauritania and plan for his second visit to conduct special training sessions on
disciplines, ethics and litanies meant for the custodian.
Sheikh AbdAllah Shareef Shinjity (RA)
The custodian of the flood Ascended to his position.
Sheikh Shinjity(RA) before leaving the house of Sheikh Abdullahi(RA) the father of Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA), he called the father and said: الله اكبر هدا والله هو صخب الفيضة التجانية The two thanked Allah and agreed to conceal the matter until the time when Allah(SWT) bring the matter out(Proclamation). Sheikh Shinjity(RA) returned to Mauritania. A year after the visit of Sheikh Shinjity(RA), the father of Sheikh Ibrahim inyass(RA) passed on to the glory of the Almighty and when the news reached Sheikh Shinjity(RA) he visited Senegal to condole the families of Sheikh Abdullahi(RA). He was received by Sheikh Muhammad Khalifah,
the eldest son of Sheikh Abdullahi(RA). Sheikh Shinjity(RA) said "I
heard that my friend and brother-in-Allah, my beloved Alhaj Abdullahi has died; because of that I myself come to you for condolences to you and my remaining brothers".
When arrangement was made for where Shareef will be hosted, sheikh Shinjity(RA) said "I will sleep in a house having thatch (grass) roof". And it was only the room of Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA) that is having grass(Thatch) roof, all the rest are zinc. On this sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA) became host to Shareef, Sheikh Shinjity(RA) that night; little did the world know about that night for it is the night the custodian of the flood will ascend to his spiritual position, and the night that changed the world forever.
The special esoteric and mystical training for the custodian of the flood.
The night sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA) hosted shareef, sheikh Shinjitiy(RA) in his room, as the shareef came in, he slept a little. He woke up when almost everybody was sleeping in the house and wake Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA) and told him, "I came here because of you, I was instructed to have audience with you". Shareef conducted special esoteric and mystical training to sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA), he handed over to him the disciplines and ethics of the custodian of the flood. He also handed over to him the secret litanies meant for that position.
As the two were in the room reciting the secret litanies, mysterious light kept on manifesting in the room. Later in the night as sheikh Ibrahim(RA) slept he saw Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani(RA) in his dream, where the latter initiated him into Tijjania Sufi order afresh(Tajdid) and confer on him secret litanies which he memorized, license and permissions which are absolute and he repeated this to him several times. In the same dream he saw his father who made him his deputy and informed him about his esoteric.
That night Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA) was made to succeed Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani(RA) and he becomes his vicegrant and the heir to his esoteric knowledges. He was made to transform from being Muqaddim by initiation to Sheikh Al-Murshid with full permission on Tarbiyyat in Tijjania Sufi order. His nafs was fully transform with fulfilment of faith, concession and belief and he became Kamil Al-Asr (The perfect man for our time). Spiritual blessings and graces spread all over his house, Senegal and the world. In that night people from the house of Sheikh Muhammad Al-Hafiz Al-Nashar(RA) the first house of Tijjania in West Africa and Mauritania manifested and conveyed their salam(greetings) to sheikh Ibrahim Inyass(RA).
People from the house of Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani(RA) mystically manifested and conveyed their salam and even handed over to sheikh Ibrahim inyass(RA) the blessed staff of sheikh Ahmad Tijjani(RA) that was kept secured by them, likewise his rosary. They also handed over to him copies of Jawahiril Ma'ani and other sacred belongings of sheikh Ahmad tijjani(RA) which were never handed into the possession of anyone after the owner. These belongings made him the leader of Tijania Sufi Order. finally he ascended the position of custodian of the flood and Shareef asked him not to make public proclamation until after his death on which Sheikh Ibrahim inyass(RA) agreed. Shareef(RA) told sheikh(RA), you will see envious ones, enemies of great number because of these acheivements. Whomsoever loves you, Allah will love him. Whomsoever relies on you achieves salvation in this world and the next. Whomsoever hates you has perished in this world and the next.
